Citrus County Students Show Strong Academic Growth Across the District
Hard work in Citrus County classrooms is paying off. Preliminary state assessment results show students made meaningful academic gains across the district during the 2025-2026 school year.
Preliminary Spring 2026 assessment results show students across Citrus County School District made significant gains in English Language Arts (ELA), with nearly every grade level increasing proficiency compared to last year.
Districtwide, ELA proficiency for students in grades 3-10 increased from 52% in 2025 to 55% in 2026, reflecting consistent academic growth across elementary, middle, and high schools.
Elementary students (Grades 3-5) increased overall ELA proficiency from 53% to 55%, led by notable gains in:
- 3rd Grade: 53% to 56%
- 5th Grade: 50% to 55%
- 8th Grade Reading: 47% to 56%
- 7th Grade Reading: 53% to 57%
Science results also reflected positive districtwide momentum, with students showing higher proficiency rates across multiple grade levels, further demonstrating the district's continued focus on academic achievement in core subject areas.
“These results show that our students are making real academic gains, and we’re proud of the hard work behind that progress,” said Superintendent Dr. Scott Hebert. “However, Florida’s grading formula is significantly more demanding this year, so maintaining a ‘B’ district grade will be more difficult than in previous years. We’re hopeful these gains will be enough, but we won’t know the final outcome until the state completes its calculations. What we do know is that Citrus County students moved forward this year, and that’s worth celebrating.”
The Florida Department of Education is expected to release official school grades this summer.
