Citrus High School is proud to open our Construction Academy for the upcoming 2022 – 2023 school year by offering our students another pathway to achieve personal and academic success. The purpose of our Construction Academy is to provide students the best foundation possible for postsecondary opportunities in the building construction industry and/or prepare them for the skills needed to be competitive as they enter the workforce.

The curriculum will be through the Home Builders Institute (HBI), and they are the nation’s leading educational resource for Career & Technical Education (CTE) in the building industry. The Pre-Apprenticeship Training (PACT) is the curriculum ideally suited for school-based instruction. It facilitates the knowledge and skills in carpentry, electrical, plumbing, brick masonry, landscaping, facilities maintenance, painting, and weatherization. Students will learn residential construction focused skills, receive hands-on training, and master the knowledge needed for postsecondary success or future employment.

Students will have the opportunity to earn many professional career certifications through the Pre-Apprenticeship Training including:

  • Building Construction Technology
  • Carpentry
  • Core
  • Electrical

This program offers a sequence of courses that provides coherent and rigorous content aligned with challenging academic standards and relevant technical knowledge and skills needed to prepare students for further education and careers in the Architecture & Construction career cluster; provides technical skill proficiency, and includes competency-based applied learning that contributes to the academic knowledge, higher-order reasoning and problem-solving skills, work attitudes, general employability skills, technical skills and occupation-specific skills, and knowledge of all aspects of the Architecture & Construction career cluster. The course titles and course descriptions are as follows:

 Course Title  Course Description
Digital Information Technology (8207310) 9th grade This course is designed to provide a basic overview of current business and information systems and trends, and to introduce students to fundamental skills required for today's business and academic environments. Emphasis is placed on developing fundamental computer skills. The intention of this course is to prepare students to be successful both personally and professionally in an information-based society. 
Building Construction Technology 1 (8720310) 9th grade The purpose of this course is to develop the competencies essential to the building construction industry. These competencies include skills and knowledge related to safety practices, the proper use of hand and power tools, plan reading, basic rough carpentry and framing. 
Building Construction Technology 2 (8720320) 10th grade The purpose of this course is to develop the competencies necessary for the building, construction, and repair industry. These competencies relate to construction components, materials and hardware, concrete, and masonry skills.
Building Construction Technology 3 (8720330) 11th grade This course is designed to provide students with a more in-depth knowledge of construction documents, as well as competencies in construction management. These include heavy equipment selection, knowledge of codes and regulations, site preparation, estimating, scheduling and knowledge of sustainability issues relevant to the construction industry.

12th grade

The purpose of this course is to develop competencies in exterior finish carpentry.


Students can also earn the following Florida Bright Futures Scholarship Programs:

  • Florida Gold Seal Vocational Scholars

    • Florida Gold Seal Vocational Scholarship (GSV) program can be used to fund a career education or certificate program at a Technical or State College.

To earn this scholarship students must:

  • Complete 3 credits within a single pathway
  • 3.0 weighted core GPA
  • 3.5 unweighted GPA in the pathway courses
  • Minimum college ACT, SAT, or PERT scores

  • Florida Gold Seal CAPE Scholars award

    • Florida Gold Seal CAPE Scholarship (GSC) award can be used to fund a career education or certification program.

To earn this scholarship students must:

  • Pass industry certification exam(s) equating 5 or more college credits
  • Document a minimum of 30 service hours
